What's In or On your food?

&

What can you do about it?

Knowledge holds the key to the answers... and knowledge is the assimilation and processing of data or information.  The problem is these days there is so much information out there from all kinds of sources, mostly on the web, but also in libraries, book stores, and on peoples book shelfs.

This has become a key part of the problem.   Old outdated information, dis-information and information overload occur because information is pouring out from all kinds of potentially unreliable sources (including this one...)  This source is meant to be a helpful thread if you will documenting some of our travels through the internet and various other sources searching for possibly a better way, a better food, a better diet, a better exercise, etc.    I am far from perfect and actually no model of perfect physical fitness at all.   I am a little overweight, I love In and Out Double Doubles and eat cooked meat (the more well done the better for me), which I know makes it harder to digest, less nutritous and even allegedly more carinogenic and many (especially chefs) would saywell done even ruins the steak or burger, but not me!   So please never think of me as a guru you should follow every piece of advice you should not.  Take what I offer, my intentions are good, process it, check it out and then you decide.

Consider me the average real common kind of guy that hasn't got it all figured out yet, trying to figure it out in a way I can accept and adopt it into my own life.  So maybe you will identify, maybe you won't.  If you are a total fitness freak and health nut as I call them, then you will likely find my site humorous.  Please help me out, where I am sure you hold information I have not been exposed to.  I would appreciate the hand and will try to return the favor in any way I can.

Please, don't ever take anything written here as the gospel, truth, or as a perscriptive directive or claim that it will cure something ailing you... I may feel this way about it and might even talk or write about my own beleifs or benefits.  I would never intentionally lie to you, it's just not who I am.  But I might simply be wrong as so many people before me have been.   As I grow and branch into all my various areas of interest as needs dictate over time, I may even hire some articles to be written for my on my behalf.  I will review them obviously and check them out, but I want to provide you the most useful and complete content I can.   Eventually, if I get enough content or actually hire staff writers for example, then I might start charging, but as with all my newsletters, people that join in the launch phase, when its just me and free, will remain free for life.   So be a early adopter of my offer of information, hopefully I will help you out and not let you down or misguide you.  Hopefully, you will help me out and purchase at least a couple of the products I recommend or refer a few friends to my site, maybe share my post on facebook or twitter, all these things "in marketing terms" should help me out to make a small buck off of sending you as a lead to the manufacturer.  If you purchase from them, then they will pay me a commission of what they would of otherwise spent on advertising.  In effect, my articles are advertising for their products, because people would rather read "real" content than polished marketing B.S.  (even if the "real" content is also B.S.)

Continually, there is some new, invention, study or discovery, that tends to undo something that we thought never possible before.   So this field of information is ever expanding and growing.  Nanotechnology promises nearly infinite possible breakthroughs in medical and other areas of science.   (kind of unrelated but I subscribe to a newsleter NanoWerk and they send out DAILY news of new breakthroughs in nanotechnology)  Some are medical or health related, most are related to physical properties of things, enhanced solar cells and films, controllable reactions, like tests.... Popular Science just showed an invention of the year a pen that can hold fluid solutions for test strips.  You draw a line on a piece of blank paper, apply bodily fluid, look at color, each pen has a different test in it and can be used to administer hundreds or eventually probably even thousands of tests from a single pen (brilliant and will be hugely powerful in bringing better, more cost effective, use at home, testing to the public, to help them manage their own health.

Screw Health Care.  What do I mean?  I mean you need to be responsible for your own health if you want to live a longer healthier happier life.   They can get all the "insurance" anyone might want, free drugs and doctors visits and you will still die a slow painful death if you fully utilize these services (in my opinion), because doctors know how do diagnose and prescribe drugs to treat symptoms, that is what they are trained to do... Many know lots of other things, but that is a key component to being a doctor regardless of the type or specialty.  So what do you think they are going to do to make you feel better and get you out of their office, because you 5.3 minutes is up and they need to see the next patient.  I always ask a lot of questions largely to try to get my moneys worth and tie the doc up.  Not stupid questions though!  I usually try to sneak in advice on a few other ailments that might be bothering me while I am in there for the life impacting one as well... why not.. I plan out what I intend to ask, I first try to self diagnose myself (subjectively as possible) and think of possible reasons for my pain or illness.  Often I am right, but I have also been wrong a few times.   This way, I know a bit about alternative therapys before I go in and I can ask my Doc what he or she knows about them.   This is always a good idea anyway if you are trying something completely new that you have never heard  of or used before... if you are there anyway, ask them what they think.  If you don't have an appointment call the office and ask if you can just ask or leave a message with a question for the RN... Maybe use your Iphone or Droid to snap a shot of the label ingredients and nutritional conent information are usually the most important, probably the directions as well.  See if you can email it into their office or drop by with a sample or used package for them to take a quick look and see if it looks ok to take with your condition or other medications if you are on any.

Many plant and organic based nutritional supplements will have a slight variability in the concentration of the active ingredients, as plants grow at different rates based on soil, air and water conditions.  So potency can vary, many companies assure a certain minimum potency.     But the more important fact here is if you are ataking a new organic supplement or starting to juice or something if you have an alergic reaction to an ingredient it might be you never noticed it before in smaller concentrations...

This brings me to the banner on the upper right.  The way that many of us develop these allergies according to many "experts", is through the injestion of herbicides and pesticides.   Huge companies like Monsanto and Cargill are trying to take over and monopolize the food industry.  They are all about the chemicals.  They want to sell you a seed that requires their chemicals and doesn't reproduce more seed, so you have to buy from them again next year and with herbicide resistant genetically modified strains of these plants, they get the farmers to spray their crops, fields and all with the herbicide and the plant that we are supposed to eat won't die but all the other plants will.   How natural is this food at this point.  They say it is safe, but they said that about clodamyde, sacharin, nutrasweet (aspertame), DDT, etc. The point is they will often say what they know you want to hear, unfortunately its been proven in many accounts, even when they know it is an outright lie!

The product on the upper right Eat Cleaner is an excellent organic solution to part of this problem.  At least we can wash off the pesticide, herbicide and other contaminate residues from our fruits, vegetables and chicken and fish with these amazing specially designed washes.  These are sold in some stores, but people don't understand the true benefit of using them.   The effect, visual, tastewise and even in longevity and freshness are simply amazing.  A company I represent might start carrying this product because it is so good.  In the mean time you can get it here right from the manufacturer on the upper right "Eat Cleaner" or click here -

This site and my blog are intended to allow you to hopefully find it as a convenient guide to other place to check out for yourself.  Usually and hopefully places I have checked out myself.   Obviously, again, I am not an expert on these various sites, if you see such a thing, write to the site admin or customer service and request a person to contact regarding a particular topic or area of specialty that they right in.  Submit comments and questions.  These help you and everyone else learn.   I would say there is no such thing as a stupid question, because in general there is not, however people asking things completely off topic, obviously distracts, however an occassional off topic humorous question or comment might be left in... like maybe "can I have fry's with that?" on a discussion about arterial disease.   You get the point.

Also, always remember the whole concept of a "placebo" in a double blind study... an amazing number of people who take a placebo will often get the same affect as the actual drug.  The brain is an amazing thing and the power of thought, meditation and prayer are immense, particularly in their curative abilities and on the negative side when these things turn all negative... depression, hatred, disgust, stress, etc. they can cause us to become ill (possibly in hopes of escaping it all and ending up in the hospital subconciously).   I cannot afford the hospital and do not currently have health insurance, so I am not going unless I am dying and I know I need to be as healthy as I can.  Still I make lots of the wrong lifestyle choices, like so many people out there.  So maybe you will be able to identify with me better than some guru's that are just a little to perfect, or at what I consider an unattainable level for me.  Maybe I am just selling myself short, but I also kind of figure, I know myself, so unless I want to and can succeed in re-inventing myself, then I should just learn to do the best I can with what I got.  I want to help you do the same.  If you want to do a triathalon, go for it.  If you are currently a couch potatoe living off of beer and pizza, I might be able to take you to the first or second step away from there, but if you are already trim, fit, vegan or pescatarian, vegetarian or just a fruit (just kidding) then I am not a good life coach for you, sorry!  Stick around for the laughs and try to help me out a bit.  Give me feed back on where I am right or wrong I could use the help and my loyal readers could to.

Remember, it's been proven that at least to "some extent"  that whatever you believe will help you, will actually help you just because you believe it will.   Say that 10 times fast.   Maybe this is why they call it will power, because it will make a difference, so trick or train your brain to help you in your quest, become a true beleiver in whatever it is you are doing, if you don't believe it will help, don't bother trying it out.  I think you get my point.  Of course scientist and statisticians are probably screaming but you just told them to slant their own study toward success by encouraging the placebo affect.  Yes I am.  That is because this site is designed to help you, and not scare you or make you run to your surgen or pharmacist.   So I want to slant the odds of improvement in your life in your favor.  If you had to pass a critical life or death test or win a critical game, wouldn't you use every tool in the tool box or trick in the book.  I certainly wood.  Get every edge and attitude and mindset can be huge to overall health and well being.

Hopefully, that reminder of the placebo affect will help you to question, your doctors advice, my advice, any advice for that matter.   Remember the "Power of the written word" as Roger Dawson puts it is immense.  Write it down and call it policy or make it a sign and many people will abide by it and few will question it....  mostly we just accept it as fact or required behavior.  This powerful method of persuasion is often used against us in our lives.  "Evil Marketers and Corporations" that want to trick us into believing something build in all kinds of credibility and believability, because if we believe it and they sell us in the proper manner we will do almost anything we can to get it, even if it means going deep into debt.   My point is, not everything works, if you think it is safe and won't hurt you and you can afford to try to integrate it into your regular diet then I would suggest you do and try to monitor the results or affects.   It is ok to do this in groups too, but obviously, then if you have a side affect or allergic reaction  you don't like you aren't necessarily sure which one is causing it.. So just be aware of it.  Just because its written, or spoken by "an expert" doesn't mean it is so or a true statement.  Many an "expert" with good and bad intention has been proven wrong after the fact, after thousands have already followed their lead and believed the hypothesis was fact without any doubt.    This faith, is part of what is wrong with the medical system.  We all seem to have an inherent trust in the FDA, CDC, Doctors  and the Pharmaceutical Companies to take care of us.  I am sorry but there are way too many jobs on the line and bonuses and vacations to pay for to make this at least a less than unbiased system of true advise.   It may even in some cases be outright legalized drug pushing.  I know they have cracked down on some doctors but there are hundreds of thousands if not millions of americans addicted to and dependent upon perscription drugs that relieve a symptom, possibly prevent one, but most are riddled with other potential side effects and even with the expensive "rigorous" FDA new drug studies, these have been found to be largely ineffective at predicting the overall reaction on a true large population.  So all the animal activists should be happy because we are now equal to the guinee pigs and lab rats, yet we don't record the drug reactions and interactions like we would in a lab on a rat, because it would be too costly and previously impossible.  But now such a big brother system would actually be feasible technically to help track the actual interactions and true results of the drugs in the field over longer periods of time (completely and accurately) to reveal more of the side effect and weed out the bad drugs more quickly.

Remember "Perception is Reality"

I also personally believe while many modern medical procedures are necessary life saving skills and miracles in their own right,  it still seems more and more of them are designed to treat symptoms and few are looking at the cause of the illness or disease.   A broken leg is pretty explainable and understandable,  a cast and even an xray make total sense, but what exactly causes cancer, cardiovascular disease, etc.  I honestly don't think they know the full story yet.  But the trend seems to be to treat symptoms not the root cause.  I think they are just afraid to ban Big Macs (and I don't mean to just pick on McDonalds, even the so called upper scale food chains like Chilis, Applebees, Macaroni Grill, etc. have some pretty attrotious nutritional information on some of their dishes.  But all, even McDonalds are now offering healthier choices if people ask for and demand it.  The more people that do, the more options will pop up... Simple supply and demand.

I attribute the internet to much of the growing awareness and for that I see the internet as a powerful equalizer, helping to make big corporations more transparent by public outcrys for change or information.  The efforts and campaigns do work.

How do some people live to ripe old ages without any illness.  How do they do it?  Is it genetics?  Maybe!  Maybe Not!

I suspect it is a combination of genetics, mental outlook, physical fitness and eating habits or food and nutrition.    There isn't a whole lot you can do about genetics yet, other than scare yourself with a test that tells you what you are predisposed to.

I suppose,  If I had the cash, I might do it to know so I could try to prevent with more intensity those particular prone areas to prolong my existence here.   But still I kind of don't even want to know.

Its back to the whole thought thing... Call it positive thinking or at least Not Negative Thinking!

I don't like to have negative forecasts looming over me, so from this perspective I often take the head in the sand report and avoid the test or the procedure that might normally be considered routine by the traditional doctors.  Rather I usually turn to google, books and newsletters about alternative health options.  And only when I am certain I am going to otherwise die or suffer unneccessarily without pain killers will I go to the doctor.  But thats just me, I am not recommending this to you if you are a normal attendee at the doctors office, keep going... Just question them and their advise.  I am not saying don't follow it, just to ask a lot of questions... what are side effects, what are alternative treatments, what are exercises or lifestyle changes I could make etc.?

trying to find out how credible the source is, how effective the product is, or how poisonous the chemical is and many more difficult questions that are often hard to answer in a resonable amount of time and effort.   So many people like "Bottom Line Books", "Readers Digest", etc. make money by consolidating these tips into a handy resource guide that can be used to lookup tips, but even then, unless you read it cover to cover, or are feeling ill, you many not use it or know the answer is in there... So the "WORLD WIDE WEB", answers aren't always readily available for.

On this site I intend to quote and post links mostly to other peoples information that I have stumbled upon or dug out of the piles.  I will reveal my sources, throw in my two cents on what I think or what questions I have about the purported benefits or dangers and I will send them out to you on my email list and post them in my blog here.
